Well my trip has been quite the story since I left Denver. The flight from Denver to Philly was grand, I sat by a couple who spoke frenglish (French and English) so I could understand parts of it.
I started to read my book, Christy and it is the perfect book for me to have brought because Christy also goes somewhere completely foreign to her by herself. I sipped on ginger ale and read a book, good deal. Arrived in Philadelphia just in time to walk the opposite direction and then finally find the passport booth. Boarded the plane, dropped my water bottle almost on a guys head, woulda given him a concussion. And yes, everyone was staring. Sat on the plane to leave for Madrid for an hour because we were the 38th plane in line to take off. Finally we left and began the overnight flight to Madrid. I watched Iron Man 2, slept, and was served dinner on a plane… pasta, bread roll, cake, and salad. Don’t forget the ginger ale..again. J I was surrounded by everyone speaking Spanish which was awesome, but made me really nervous at the same time.
The many letters ya’ll wrote me I have been reading over and over again. I keep reading verses that you guys wrote and realize so much more now how much the Lord is with me, because I am totally on my own without anyone to lean on besides him. I also have been listening to great music one being Jon Foreman and enjoying every minute of it!
It is super weird because at this moment it is 10:30 a.m. and at home it is 1:30 a.m. so all ya’ll are sleeping right now. I feel like I skipped a night of sleep. So here is where my adventure takes a turn:
We deplaned into Madrid at 8:30 a.m. and my flight to Bilbao was at 9:40 (enough time right? NO!) I literally felt like I was dropped into some other world. It was as if, traveling a couple thousand miles flipped my world completely around. Everyone spoke Spanish and when I would try to talk in English they didn’t understand ME! How weird that was. I feel like I have opened one of my Spanish books and jumped inside this life.
So I went to where I was supposed to get my ticket, she said I had to go the opposite direction and didn’t speak English so I asked someone else, who lead me to location #2.. and so forth. I ended up waiting in lines that weren’t for my ticket 5 different places. Finally when I arrived at the right booth the lady spoke ENGLISH! She was mad at me actually for missing my flight because I had an hour to find it, apparently that wasn’t enough time for me L I had mistakenly gone out of security to get my ticket, so yes.. I had to go back through. The lady stopped me with my first bag and said open it, so I did and had a water bottle full of liquid (NOT OK!) I tried to explain to her in Spanish that I went through security and was coming from philly, she understood but I still needed to go dump it in the toilet. As I reach for my backpack to leave security she stops me again and says open it. Really? So I do and take everything out for her to inspect. She found my granola bars which she didn’t know what they were and was gonna take them from me, I kept saying this is my food! Jaja
I am now in the Madrid airport, found a lone plug in and charging my laptop. There’s no free internet in the airport either. Had to call Alicia, my host mom to tell her I missed my flight and to my surprise my Spanish was easy to speak and I could understand her! She laughed at me and told me not to miss my bus haha I’m excited to meet my family. I am also excited to get some sleep because so far I have been up for 24 hours with airplane sleep, which doesn’t really count.
Sorry my blog was so long this time. You can tell me to shut up and I will, it’s easy to ramble when typing. Love you all. ¡Dios te Bendiga!
